The Story Behind Our Name

"Rethem" is the English transliteration of the Hebrew word for the "Broom Tree" (Rotem).

The story dates back to over 800 BC. The prophet Elijah lived in an era of great evil; pursued by his enemies, he fled for his life and fell into deep despair.

As recorded in the Bible: He traveled a day’s journey into the wilderness and came to a broom tree. Sitting down under it, he prayed that he might die, saying, "I have had enough, Lord. Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors."

Without a word of judgment, God sent an angel to provide him with food and a place to rest. Once Elijah found his peace, a way forward appeared. God revealed to him that there were still seven thousand others who had not bowed to evil, standing as his pillars of support. Strengthened, he arose and continued his life's journey.

Our counseling practice is named after the "Broom Tree" (Rethem) as a sanctuary for those carrying emotional distress and mental trauma. It is a place to restore inner peace, discover new turning points, find hope in humanity, and bravely continue the journey of life.
